Visual Art Grade 5
Course Description
Students will complete a variety of projects using many different media. Drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics are all explored at various times throughout the course. Along with art production, students will learn about the elements of art. Students will learn about art history through the study of different artists and cultures, as well as aesthetics and critical analysis of works of art.
Standards
- Describe the characteristics of the elements of visual art including color, line, shape, value, form, texture, and space.
- Describe the tools, materials, and techniques from a variety of two and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.
- Describe how visual art communicates meaning.
- Create original two and three-dimensional artworks to express specific artist ideas.
- Revise artworks based on the feedback of others and self-reflection.
- Select and assemble artworks for a personal portfolio.

Visual Art Grade 6
Course Description
Building upon knowledge learned in fifth grade art, sixth grade students receive reinforcement in the elements of art and are introduced to the principles of design while completing a variety of projects using many different media. Drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics are all explored at various times throughout the course. Along with art production, students will learn about art history through the study of different artists and cultures, as well as aesthetics and critical analysis of works of art.

- Analyze how the principles of visual art such as repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast, and balance are used in the creation, presentation, or response to visual artworks.
- Demonstrate the characteristics of the tools, materials, and techniques of various two and three-dimensional media for intentional effects in original artwork.
- Create original two and three-dimensional artworks to express specific artist ideas.
- Revise artworks based on the feedback of others and self-reflection.
- Assemble and prepare personal artwork for exhibit.

7th and 8th Grade Ceramic/Sculpture
Course Description
Students will spend the first half of the course exploring different methods of making sculpture, to include clay, plaster, wood, and found objects (3 dimensional art). During the time students are working with clay they will create various hand-built and wheel-thrown pieces, both functional and decorative, to include: plates, jars, vases, mugs and serving dishes. During the second half of the course students will create work using the media and subject matter of their choice.

- I can create a completed coil built piece combining the elements of art and glazing techniques.
- I can design and create a glaze fired pottery piece that is inspired by art history.
- I can create a sculpture of found materials based on a specific theme.

7th and 8th Grade Drawing/Painting
Course Description
Students will explore different drawing and painting media to include graphite, colored pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor and acrylic paints. The first half of the course will be spent on skill development, technique and exploration. During the remainder of the course students will create artwork using the media and subject matter of their choice.
